All About The Heart Of Christmas

By Kevin McDonald

Its that time of the season again. And what better way to approach it than with a whole bunch of sentimental and schmaltzy movies in which you can feel all the feels, as per the hackneyed alliteration. Lets narrow down the mind boggling smorgasbord of choices for you with The Heart of Christmas.

This American Christian drama was released way back in 2011. That seems like eons ago, considering. However, youd probably agree that theres something particularly enduring and timeless about Christmas tropes. Although the fads of last year are now strictly obsolete, you know you can go right back to quintessential classics like this one without suffering some acerbic backlash.

If youre an indefatigable consumer of tearjerkers, then youre on your turf here. It takes such a lot of scientific thinking and neurobiological analysis to know why we are suckers for sad movies in the first place. It could either be because theyre cathartic or therapeutic, or whatnot. Whatever the reasons, youll walk out of the movie house or room, in a puddle of tears and with an aura of love.

The film explores the star crossed lives of two family units, that one of the Walshes and the Lockes. Each a different nuclear group undergoing their own different tribulations. The latter is going through some tough time with the diagnosis and projection of the disease of their toddler, Dax. The former is up in a more generic one, that of estrangement and falling out.

This businesswoman, Megan Walsh, is a successful career woman. But she soon discovers that all boons come at a price. The astronomical costs are her progressively deteriorating family relationships, both with her spouse and her children. Evidently, this is because shes so caught up in the rigors of her job that she no longer found time and energy to spend with her family.

In a last ditch attempt to fix her relationship with her family, she takes her children trick or treating. Alls well and breezy in the first few steps. She tries as best as she can, although the viewers can pretty much perceive from the get go that theres still an epiphany or eureka moment to help her get her act straight perpetually and for good.

It comes sooner than expected. In the course of their desultory trick or treating, they come upon a neighborhood in which many families are decorating for Christmas, which was evidently two months away. Of course, this is especially mind boggling, seeing as how mistaking the time and date can be a particularly debilitating form of mental disorder. Deciding that either her or these villagers were off their rockers, she decides to ask them what the whole shebang was all about.

The answer was such a hard pill to swallow. Turns out, they were out to herald an earlier Christmas for a dying toddler named Dax Locke. If that doesnt purge all the salt drops from your tear ducts, Megan then goes on to read Daxs mothers blog so that she may know about the Lockes journey. The experience inspires Megan to bring her very own life and priorities to perspective.

It is due to this universality that we should take a few seconds to ponder on its deeper meaning. After all, it may get buried under all the morass of contrivances and superficialities. Instead, all must employ some necessary introspection to drive home its purport and essence. Then again, to each his own.
