By Beatriz Castro

Have you heard horror stories about traveling from your family or friends? Chances are, whatever misfortunes they experienced could have been prevented had they done their homework on traveling. In the following guide, you are going to be given advice that could save you from having a horror story of your own.Having a good set of maps or road atlas can save one from a possible disaster if they get lost or electronic map devices such as GPS or smart phones run out of battery. Many things can cause electronics to malfunction and stop working. Having backup option can save one's trip.

Check with maps and guides wherever you go. You never want to get lost in a place that you are unfamiliar with, notably if you are traveling through rural land. The further you are from a city and the city streets, the further you are from people that could help you out of a sticky situation. If you aren't checking your guides and maps, you could find yourself in an unsafe situation.Adjust your schedule to your destinations timezone a day or two before leaving. If you'll be traveling to a location where morning is three hours earlier than you are used to, set your alarm to commence the routine early. Get to bed earlier to match the timezone as well and you can acclimate your body to the ritual.

If you are staying at a hostel or camping while traveling, you may want to scout out other locations to use the restroom. Bathroom facilities at may hostels may be unclean to your point of disgusting, while the bathroom at the fast food joint down the street at least has to maintain a minimum level of sanitation. When you are traveling overseas, make sure that you know and obey all of the local laws. The embassies and consulates can only help you so much. If you commit a crime on foreign soil, according to foreign law, your government will be unable to override those laws and you must submit to the punishment of that country's laws.

When traveling by car with small children, make sure to pack snacks for them to eat during the trip. In fact, pack double than what you were anticipating. This will keep them busy and happy so that they won't cause too many problems on your trip. Even a little junk food won't hurt just this once. When traveling, if you've to use a public computer for anything, whether it's to check your email, your Facebook, or your bank account, make sure you log out! Don't just close the browser like you might do on your personal computer, make sure you click the log out button. This will prevent anyone else from accessing your data.

Traveling with a suitcase that has no dividers or compartments you can split your clothes up in can be tough. A great way to get around this problem is by placing a piece of cardboard between different clothing selections or items. Not only will you be able to separate your items, but you'll come out looking more organized. Before you embark on an international trip, contact your credit-card issuer to notify them of your plans. Provide the issuer with information regarding the particular countries and cities that you plan to visit. This prevents unneeded triggering of safety features that will cause your card to be declined at an international point of sale.

To keep your belongings organized during a hotel stay, use a hanging shoe organizer. The organizer can be hung on the inside of your bathroom door, and it gives you a place to store and separate toiletries and other odds and ends outside of your suitcase. This means that you won't have to waste valuable trip time trying to find something.
