Rapid Motor Vehicle Company was purchased by GM in 1909 which is company is known for its production of commercial trucks that are powered by an engine with just one cylinder. Upon the purchase of Rapid Motor Vehicle Company, GMC truck trade name was created. In that same period of time, another independent automaker was obtained by GMC, the Reliance Motor Company. The two new acquisitions were tied in 1911 and led to the construction of the earliest GMC trucks. The Motor Show in New York in 1912 gave the public the first glance to the GMC trucks.

This is so since the US government has contacted the company to construct large vehicles that will be used by the military force in the war. More than 600,000 huge vehicles were fabricated by the company during this time. The large vehicles-production of GMC is still continuing today. The GMC Sierra s considered by many as the brother to the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. The two trucks often share many of the same parts and styling is usually very similar on the two.
