Outstanding Educational Toys for Your Child

By Sherm Wilson

Parents should really be commended for the way they embrace the spirit of the holiday season. They endure adverse weather, long lines, and - often - disappointment in their search for that perfect holiday gift for their child. Of course, most of us would endure that and a whole lot more to see our kids happy.

But rather than simply following the crowd on its annual safari to hunt down the current "hot toy" of the holiday season, how about going a little off the beaten path? In all honesty, there's an infinite number of exceptionally cool gifts for kids in the marketplace, but how great would it be if every time your child played with a toy you could be confident that he was also learning? With that in mind, below is a short list of great learning toys and gifts:

Leappad Explorer Learning Tablet: This is a very impressive learning tablet for kids. It's an interactive device with a large, in-color touchscreen. Moreover, it comes with 4 apps, but has a over a hundred other games, apps, ebooks, and other digital media available. The educational materials cincluded over a broad range of topics and subject matter, including reading, math, science and music, among others. Finally, this gift includes a built-in camera. In brief, this toy has exceptional long-term teaching and entertainment value with kids.

Laugh and Learn Smart Screen Laptop: Not only is this a fun gift, but it also makes a nice introduction to some of the fundamentals of learning, such as counting and the alphabets. It also hase a myriad of other features, such as songs and words. Moreover, it provides little tikes with their own laptop, so that they are no longer obsessed with the real thing (parents with small children will no doubt understand).

Leapfrog Phonics Pond: With the letters of the alphabet appearing on buttons on its front, the Phonics Pond teaches - what else? - phonics via numerous methods, including: (a) Music - Children are instructed to press a letter, which will cause music to be played - primarily well-known favorites like "This Old Man," "Yankee Doodle," and the like; (b) Discovering Letters - Children press the letter of their choice and are told the name of the corresponding letter; and (c) Finding Letters by Sound - Children are given the sound of a letter and asked to identify it.

It should be clearly understood the list above is by no means everything you might be able to find in terms of educatonal gift ideas. There's a myriad of exceptional toys and gifts out there that will help your child reach his full potential, while also being a lot of fun. In my opinion, you'd be giving your child the best of both worlds with such a gift, which is something they may not understand now but which will serve them well in the future.
